WOODEN SCULPTURE

Today Sculpture Gallery is at the regional level and it introduces sculptors from different cities of Russia.
Wooden Sculpture exhibition is dedicated to one of the most ancient materials; it can be perfectly used for landscape sculptures and for interior ones.
Valentin Reschikov, a sculptor from St Petersburg, and Nikolay Kamyshnikov from Saratov work with the same material – wood. And it was possible to name the exhibition because of the works of these two masters.
It would be a mistake to consider that forms and ideas are given them by the material. They feel wood; they think of it and unearth a mystery of it. They both have come to their style trough the idea of showing mystery of nature, human and universe with the help of simple forms.
Their sculptures have a lot in common with examples of archaic art. Nikolay Kamyshnikov demonstrates the unity of nature and human being, makes it poetic, he has the idea of plastic; his works demonstrate basic natural forms.
The main theme of Valentin Reschikov’s sculptures is a myth. They are mysterious and full of ideas, he manages to fix core things and clip accessories and secondary things.
Each artist working with myths and modernity offers us to become an observer and a participant of his artistic rite.
There is also a combination of images, symbols and impressions in enkaustikh and enamel which you can also find at the exhibition. There is something in common in enkaustikh technique of Valentin Reschikov and Vladimir Kordyukov from Vologda; it is a manner of taking and perception the world.
Vladimir Kordyukov continues experiments with decorative materials and presents his diptych collages in hot enamel and batik at the exhibition.
