SPACE EXPLORATION
December 2008 – 15 March 2009
Welcome to our Sculpture Gallery!
The first exhibition which we can call «Space Exploration» was surprisingly successful. We did not expect such success. Perhaps people turn to beauty and no one was indifferent. The place of the exhibition also influenced the popularity, it took place in Business Hotel «Karelia» and was very crowded. So the beginning of our project was successful all round.
Our visitors are surprised by the size of some works – up to 3 meters high. The thing is that in St. Petersburg small-scale sculpture is more popular, and by no means all galleries have it. We cared about space organization and found it possible to get rid of standard concepts. The principal place is occupied by Oleg Zhogin’ works. Wood is fresh and rich material, and we can see it in Zhogin’s sculptures. The exhibition opens with his «Reflection» and «Icarus», then you see a nice beast (composition of «Evolution») – is it about us, human beings? Was that beast our ancestor? In the middle of the hall there are his famous works which we can easily recognize – «Naked woman in an armchair» and «Night River» by Zhogin, too. Painting and graphics were not main points for our exhibition. However we present some painting with great pleasure. There are works of Vladimir Zhukov, one of the best painters of St. Petersburg, whose works are being sold at auctions Chriestie's and Dorotheum. There are also works of Peter Konosh, they can be found in private collections of Russian ex-president Vladimir Putin and Charles, Prince of Wales. There are also works of a Spanish painter Karpi (Jose Manuel Karpi) who is considered to be one of the best Spanish painters and who is called «the second Picasso» in his Motherland. |
