Efimova Olga
Artist
Like any other great artist, Olga Efimova belongs to her time. Much of her original technique had an impact in her day. New creative ideas emerge, new discoveries are made. But the works she created remain of everlasting significance awakening in the viewer warmth and kindness, light in the heart and spirit.
Olga Efimova was born in Leningrad in 1934. Not accidentally her creative ability revealed itself early in life. Her parents were professional painters, and the child began painting at the age of four. Later she went to an art school and in 1953 entered the Department of Painting, Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
At the end of the 60-s Olga was seen as a mature artist. She traveled extensively in the towns and villages of the Russian North, and her sketches of that period are noted for their lyrical content. She sings the praise of nature in the North and the beauty of architecture erected through the labour and talent of Russian craftsmen. Her themes are traditional enough, but their plastic treatment testifies to the artist’s freedom in painting and mastery in overcoming difficulties.
She mostly paints in tempera, and her paint-work is not smooth or finished but contains something like a number of lavers and looks a kind of mosaic or a many colored twirling kaleidoscope. Those pictures are full of tender and doleful music. Mutual enrichment is achieved through the musical pattern of the lines, the astonishing light blue and green colouring, and the proximity and interaction of cold and warm colors.
In many creations by Olga the music of the work and its pictorial character combine to form a harmonious unity. The artist uses a subtle pictorial language to reproduce «the movement of the soul» and astonishes the viewer with her wonderful insight into the world of music.
Pictures by Olga Efimova are to be found in museums in our country and abroad.
