We haven't had such exhibitions in St Petersburg for a long time. We have had enough of classical landscapes of grand architecture images «for tourists» in gallery windows and glam «tasty things» for local gentlemen of virtu. What do modern artists mean under contemporary and current art? What inspires scuptors today? How is it possible to create pieces of art from childhood recollections?

On August 26th, at 12.10. «Sculpture Gallery» was in «Art-lunch» program on «Echo of Moscow in St Petersburg» radio. The program is new and it dedicated to cultural news and events in the city. Sophia Kasim, the director of the gallery, was invited to our studio. She told us about her gallery and about new exhibition called «Thoughts of a Woman».

In the evening on July, 7th «Thoughts of a Woman» exhibition was opened. It was the third exhibition this year. Artists, sculptors, collector and friends of Sophia, the gallery director, were our guests. The party was a success! All people were pleased; a lot of good things were said to the gallery director. The guests liked the exposition, space organization and, what is more important, the pieces of art were in admirable proportion. I should say that praise of such authors (sculptors) like E. N. Rotanov, V. M. Vargachev (Novikov), B.M. Sergeev, is a very good sign for a new gallery.

Thoughts of a woman (but not meditation!) are always elusive, intangible; they are like fuff or the scent of flowers... Each artist catches his own symbol, his own line or a colour...read more
